My name is Patty Hanson, and I am the managing director and co-owner of IKOR of Western Pennsylvania. In addition to my role at IKOR, I am also an experienced professional counselor and aging life care specialist. I have created a collection of programs called the Solutions for Dignity Programs, which are designed to provide assistance to the elderly and disabled.

Since 2011, I have been leading a team of registered nurses who serve as patient advocates, personal coordinators, and financial advocates. Our mission is to help the elderly, the handicapped, and children with special needs access the advocacy services they require.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on individuals worldwide, and the issues it has brought to light are incredibly concerning. As an advocate for our clients, I am particularly troubled by the numerous reports of elder care facilities and our clients suffering due to the pandemic. Seniors are at risk, families are unable to be with their loved ones, and seniors are passing away without support.

The pandemic has affected everyone, including our staff, clients, residents of our senior living communities, and individuals living at home. Families may struggle to provide the same level of care that schools offered for children with special needs who lack access to essential support services or who are attending classes online. Additionally, disabled individuals living alone or in shared homes face challenges without the necessary assistance.

The COVID-19 crisis has highlighted the importance of spending quality time with loved ones and being fully present. It is essential that we learn from this tragedy and prepare ourselves to provide respectful and compassionate care for our loved ones. My course, which has been running since 2011, focuses on equipping caregivers with innovative solutions to support our clients.

Unforeseen challenges often lead to valuable lessons. The impact of COVID-19 has taught us valuable insights that can better support our clients. In order to ensure the highest quality of life for older adults, it is crucial to take a proactive approach in preventing crises.
