My name is Patty Hanson, and I am the managing director and co-owner of IKOR of Western Pennsylvania. In addition to my work at IKOR, I am a professional counselor and aging life care specialist. I created the Solutions for Dignity Programs to support the elderly and disabled.

Since 2011, I have led a team of registered nurses who serve as patient advocates, personal coordinators, and financial advocates. Our mission is to help the elderly, people with disabilities, and children with special needs access the advocacy services they require.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected people worldwide, revealing many serious concerns. As an advocate for our clients, I am deeply troubled by the numerous reports of suffering in elder care facilities. Seniors are at high risk, families cannot be with their loved ones, and many seniors are passing away without support.

The pandemic has impacted everyone, including our staff, clients, residents of our senior living communities, and those living at home. Families may find it difficult to provide the same level of care that schools offered to children with special needs, who now lack access to essential support services or are attending classes online. Additionally, disabled individuals living alone or in shared homes face significant challenges without the necessary assistance.

The COVID-19 crisis has underscored the importance of spending quality time with loved ones and being fully present. It is crucial that we learn from this tragedy and prepare to offer respectful and compassionate care to our loved ones. Since 2011, my course has focused on equipping caregivers with innovative solutions to support our clients.

Unforeseen challenges often bring valuable lessons. The impact of COVID-19 has provided us with important insights that can enhance our support for clients. To ensure the highest quality of life for older adults, it is essential to take a proactive approach in preventing crises.
